Are there REALLY enough pros to weigh out those significant cons? I really wanna know why it's such a popular decision.

I understand the desire for lights and fishfinders (I have those myself), I just don't see why installing a trolling motor would ever seem like a logical decision unless it was decided purely because of laziness and lack of information. I would think that having the battery and trolling motor in the back storage hatch would destroy the convenience factor of having great storage space for tackle and equipment directly behind you and make it to where you're confined with space in the convenient areas, making you have to store at the front of the boat or inside the hull (which is still pretty convenient but limited in space and not included on every kayak) It requires so much more energy to charge a much larger and heavier battery than it does for the small ones that would run your fishfinder and LED lights for HOURS. You may move quicker, but it also creates tons of vibration and sound to ruin a quiet approach to a fishing spot. (That's a personal view and opinion of mine, as I think that exercise is important no matter how you get it) Having a trolling motor on a boat designed for paddling seems to be the epitome of laziness and takes away a great and fun way to be active and exercise. Most states don't require that you have a tag on your kayak if it has no motor, so there's money saved by not doing it, and less things to worry about in terms of being legal on the water and avoiding a hefty fine.Ī trolling motor would just add extra weight and more difficulty with loading, unloading, and transport. I only see negative consequences by adding a trolling motor: Not trying to start a debate, because I see the convenience of storage compatibility for kayaks making them a great choice for a boat, but why do people even want to put a trolling motor on them anyways? It just seems to be defeating the purpose of even having a kayak.
